Shaam-e-Jigar: Megha Kasak

Megha Kasak from Saharanpur, relatively new to the Mushaira scene, took the whole Mehfil by a storm. With a classical singing training, her voice and poetry moved the audience as well as the other poets and moved Naheed-e-Hind, Nuzhat Nigaar, to get up and hug her!

Members of Mehfil were moved to tears listening to her. They sent their praise to her and her father, Tarun Kasak.

Live from Muradabad: 48th Annual “Shaam-e-Jigar”

Welcome_banner_Shaam_e_jigar_RockeTalk

At RockeTalk, we always push our limits and this time we got a chance to play up the best of the RockeTalk platform. With the help of three enthusiastic RockeTalkers- Danish Khan, Harsh Kosh and Shafeeq Khan and a whole lot of encouragement and help from the International Writers’ Association, UP, Muradabad, India, we did what we set out to do!

We broadcast an over 5 hours long live program to RockeTalkers all over the world- India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Central Africa, South Africa, U.K, U.S.A, Canada, Bangladesh, Sweden, Germany, Kuwait- I’m sure I’m missing some- straight to their mobile phones!

What was different from a regular ‘broadcast’ was the ability of the remote listeners to be part of the event and participate by listening as well as giving their comments, critique, asking questions right away.

Collage_Welcome_Shahab_Nazia_Audience_RockeTalk_Jigar

We did not know what to expect but, in the true Mushaira tradition, people were sending in their ‘Wah! Wah!’ and also impromptu shaiyri (shairi, poetry) in praise of what the Shayars (poets) were reciting.

We’ve always had students listening in and participating in groups but this time we had people in remote villages, as many as 50 people sitting in a room, to listen and participate.

Thanks_RockeTalk_50_log_baith_kar_Rocketalk_0

Dilkash Afridi Sahab was kind enough to sit with us and talk about Jigar Muradabadi. Here is part of the interview. We will be posting the rest of it later.

Love is in the air: Flirting 101- Bollywood style

Flirt on Air RockeTalk style

Who flirts more, boys or girls?

That was what we were all talking about. It did get very noisy, chaotic and lively. We were not huddled up in a room, in fact we where not even in the same city or country and some of us several time zones away. What came about was a hilarious competition between the guys and gals…..

Radio RockeTalk profile-rounded

The audio clip below was posted in Radio RockeTalk community.

RockeTalk_flirting_RockeTalk_style_full_sequence

This is a result of the original clip, heard last, being forwarded and new clips recorded with it. Pretty interesting… was like a night long campout. But then, RockeTalk always feels that way….

Flirting is an art. In this fast paced world, we tend to forget that it takes creativity, a hint of naughtiness and a mystery to achieve the full effect.

What better way to flirt than the good old Bollywood, filmy style- using songs. Yes, we use songs and music everywhere. So go on- flirt. Keep them guessing…. was it just a song or was it something more :) Let’s do it… on air! Old songs and some new ones.. bring it on!

Let’s give ‘em something to talk about….  :D

You still flirt in text or do you do it in person… in voice…. on air… with all your heart?

RockeTalk eXhausted Wake-a-Thon week 3

Winner of Last Week’s RockeTalk Wake-a-Thon Jitendra (Jeete)!  Jeete won an iPod. Congratulations!!! :D :D :D   Wake-a-Thon contest winner week 2 and 3 iPod

We were scanning through the entries we got for the contest- there were some really good ones and it was hard to come up with just eight people.  There were people from Kolkota, Bareilly, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Rajasthan, Rajkot- Gujarat etc.
The group of eight people who made it, made an interesting and diverse group. Pritambabu- was a hoot; Diptiy was clearly the center of attention being the only girl in the group and with a lot of spunk- there were times when the guys said that she should be given a different task- but she just went on; Srikant who sleepily made it through- was a good sport and had a wonderful take on the Baba Black sheep poem; Saurabh.the scorpion – a good sport and a very talented and versatile guy from Delhi- he gave a whole new feel to Baba black sheep in Rap; Mahabalee – usually the outspoken one was quite and had to quit half way as he was not well…. all in all a fun group to stay away with and get to know.

From doing interesting tasks to actually sending videos in as entries, RockeTalkers are having a lot of fun with the Wake-a-Thon. It is not just the selected eight who play, infact anyone who is online can jump in and play and they do- just for the fun of it.

The Wake-a-Thon is a great experience to get to know a large group of people. People who did not talk much in the communities and were rather quiet – opened p and quickly warmed up to the group setting. A resounding comment from them all to each other was- “I spent the nite with you- add me as a friend!” :) Needless to say I got a lot of material to tease them with on that spending the night together bit – by that time they were tired and sleepy and the words weren’t coming out quite right.

The ones who made it through the night all get Rs 500/- from RockeTalk towards their GPRS :)

Here is a sample of videos sent in by users:

I think I can, I think I could..

That is exactly what we at RockeTalk asked you. Why did you think your video should be aired on Channel [V] during the eXhausted show? It is your short cut to fame- get your entry in for the Wake-a-thon and yours just might be the one!

We were overwhelmed by the responses and the different sides of you all when you are were asked to talk about yourself. From the very basic- ‘I should be’ to very elaborate answers – to even when you all took it on as a political campaign- getting others to talk about you. Boy, you were all so right, India has talent- that’s for sure.

We are having fun putting the Wake-a-Thon shows together with your help of course- but please keep in mind- when you suggest the tasks for the contestants, you could be in the hot seat next. So….. please don’t seriously suggest we hang each contestant upside for the night and see who makes it :)

But seriously, some of the best ideas come from you and we really appreciate your time and patience, especially with me, and your enthusiasm, zeal, friendly voices every single day. I wake to your voices each day- and I love it.

If you are wondering what Wake-a-Thon is, it is a parallel show in response and in continuation of Channel V’s eXhausted, (Yes, they are trying to woo the MTV Roadies audiences) where ‘regular’ folks can join in the fun without having to travel- right from their mobile phones. The participants – compete and the others give them tasks to do through the night. Fun thing, as it is multimedia- folks got to send in pictures, videos and responses in their own voices. And the rest of us get to tease, cheer or boo (nah- we don’t really boo do we?)

As we cannot show hundreds of your entries on here, so here is a sample of what people sent in last week- it is just a few- hey I pushed it- I was told to choose only 5- at least I got 9 in. If you don’t see your entry here, it is nothing personal. We tried to get a good sample for you to view. Enjoy! Best wishes for this weeks contest. And keep those entries coming. Your entry may be featured next :)

Want to see your video on Channel V or here? Think you got what it takes? Come join the fun and see you you can actually make it through the night. All you need is RockeTalk on your mobile phone and fun in your hearts.

All videos were shot using mobile phones and posted directly on RockeTalk  as entries for a chance  to play the Wake-a-Thon on August 29-30, 2009 as a contestant.

Un-cut and Raw: Behind the scene exclusive videos

Everyone knows that there a lot more than what meets the eye and what actually makes it to the final cut even for the reality shows. There are takes and re-takes. There is so much more to the shows and things get really interesting when the contestants are eXhausted and the crew is under eXtreme pressure to make the show work and become a hit.

There are times when what goes on the actual show isn’t half as interestig as what goes on, hmmmm … well, in between shoots or when the people on the sets think the cameras are ‘off’. But…. Wherever there is A-C-T-I-O-N, chances are, there is a camera capturing it all. Tempers flaring, giantic egos, creative folks, tantrums, bloopers- you name it, we got it. And guess what? We got the exclusive scoop on it. Check it all out – only on RockeTalk. Are you tuned in? Or are you missing out?

V RockeTalk Wake-a-Thon: eXhausted on RockeTalk

RockeTalk Channel V Wake-a-thon

RockeTalk partnered with Channel V India to bring a new level of interaction between television audiences and the television shows. The kick-off was with Channel V’s show- eXhausted.

RockeTalk mobile partners Xhausted Channel V Newspaper ad

RockeTalk lauched a series of weekly Wake-a-thons with a night long kick off pre-show Wake-a-Thon on Friday, August 21, in keeping with the prelaunch show on Channel V. RockeTalk developed the concept around Channel V’s new extreme reality game television show that promises no sleep (only nightmares.) theme- ‘You snooze, you loose.’

RockeTalk users stayed up to participate in a Wake-a-thon designed by RockeTalk to challenge RockeTalkers to do without sleep for the night. The contest was open to anyone who wanted to participate and the contestants were given 48 questions that they needed to answer in the 12 hour period.

These contestants were playing for a chance to win a digital camera.

With participants from all over India and the observers from around the world, it was a lot of fun staying up all night. We felt like a high-schoolers once again sitting in PJs, gossiping, playing games, singing, debating, sending and watching each other’s videos, discussing some of really silly questions and making fun of Lola Kutty. It is like being in a uge camp out.

RockeTalker get to view exclusive behind the scene videos and gossip as well get a chance to interact with the show participants, and the creative team.

Wake-a-Thons are scheduled for each weekend for the next several weeks. Contestants compete for a chance to shoot videos about why they think they should be part of the eXhausted show as well as while doing the tasks given to them during the Wake-a-Thon and have their ‘cool’ videos show during the Xhausted shows

Of course, this is one of the most engaging, interesting and fun ways to keep the interest levels high, create awareness as well as show how ‘Cool’  Bloody Cool (the new baseline for Channel V India) really is!

Think you are cool nough? Wanna get in on the action? What you waitin for? Download RockeTalk on your GPRS enabled phone, submit your ‘Why you think you should be on the Xhausted show’ video and jump right in! See you on T.V? ;)

Having fun isn’t hard if you’ve got a RockeTalk heart

From us to you: The RockeTalk  Team

Yes, we are real.

Did you see it? The 'R'?

Did you see it? The 'R'?

Yes, we work long hours.

Stay up night after night trying to make things easier and more fun for everyone.

Most of us are the invissible people who magically appear out of nowhere and try to quickly fix bugs that you report.

We try to keep up with your demands for features and even try to think ahead and give you features you’ve never thought of.

We are the ones who ‘moderate’ those racy videos and pictures you keep trying to post into the Galleries. Yes, we are the ones who suspend your accounts when you behave badly :(

We love what we do and we love working as a team to make things work. We go through each and every comment you share about your experiences- with ‘r’ ‘Help’ or ‘amita’ (Yes, Amita is a real, living breathing person) and others who are occassionally seen on the ‘Live’ server or on email support@RockeTalk.com , feedback@rocketalk.com .

Most of us work tirelessly in the background but we have fun too. We play pranks (My favorite one: when the server response coming back occassionally as “Elvis has left the building”…  The server response had the team wondering for a bit how that happened ..lol.. John are you reading this?)

We take breaks from work as a team and this is what we did last weekend.

Oops! Now you know why it took longer to get back to you… lol.. Not to worry- we take turns – the show, on RockeTalk, simply must go on :)

Another Addicted RockeTalker!

We always like to hear from RockeTalkers. Sometimes they say good things (like they can’t live without RockeTalk)- and sometimes they tell us we simply stink.

And then ocassionally come across something interesting that they posted on the web :)

Read on.

RockeTalk: A World that Never Sleeps

girl_power

“By now all those who know me, know that I’m totally addicted to RockeTalk. After all, who wouldn’t be? All my fellow RockeTalker would agree with me. It is by far the most addictive social networking application that I’ve got my hands on. So much so, that when my mother filled in the matrimony column for me, (don’t even ask about that!!!) in the ‘interests’ section I asked her to put in ‘RockeTalking’.

RockeTalking for me has become a part of my daily life now. Like I’ve said many times, I start my mornings not with a cup of tea or coffee, nor do I jump out of bed and rush to brush my teeth…I start it with greetings all my fellow RockeTalkers. It’s funny but RT has turned me into a very tolerant person. From being a girl, who hated talking to people for the first couple of hr’s after she’s woken up coz she couldn’t stand to listen to non-stop chatter to being someone who actually pops open one eye and searches for the cell phone just to connect with the world. Lolz…the next few seconds are spent in checking who all are online. Thank god I don’t have to search for them. All the online friends are listed with a green symbol against their name…and the lazy bone in me doesn’t want to send out individual msgs. So I simply mark one msg to all… and that marks the beginning of an endless chat session.

Let me tell you RT is not just about chatting, it has a host of other things to offer. Like any other ordinary person, I too work for a living, so can’t get away from work, and the ride to office in an auto can be quite boring. Well, RT comes to my rescue again!! For all of you who don’t know this, you can actually make mini videos on the move and share with your fellow RockeTalkers, or even other friends (post it to their email addresses). So as soon as I see something interesting I capture it through my RT camera, and simply post it either to my friends, or if I want to share it with everyone then I post it in the ‘Gallery’. And as I browse through the gallery, sitting at the back of an auto, enduring a bumpy ride to my office, I come across many interesting videos posted by other users. It’s interesting to know how creative people can get when given a camera in hand. In fact browsing the ‘gallery’ is a sure shot way to lift your low spirits. It always works for me!!

What it also does for me is provide entertainment. You know when you’re at work and feel the need for music, but think that the HR will be after your life if caught (as if you were stealing an imp document!!), that’s the time RT is my little savior!( If my HR girl read this she would never let me live in peace, lol). Don’t get me wrong, we don’t have music playing in there, it isn’t a radio channel…but what we have is live music. User’s at RockeTalk love to sing. Doesn’t matter if they are bathroom singers, the pure love for singing shows in their voice and its so much fun…to be honest, I’ve myself joined them with antakshari many a times lol…But ofcrs, that’s after office hrs. When I’m relaxing at home after a hard days work, and don’t wanna watch TV. In-fact a lot of college students putting up in hostels or as paying guests, swear by this as it’s just the perfect source of entertainment for them. When their friends from India doze off they begin the same rounds with users from other parts of the world, who have just started their day.

Speaking of users, I love people who state the obvious. Read this somewhere- “Social Media provides better coverage of news”…really? I guess this is why traditional news is being replaced by social news sites. The obvious is hardly stated and events are current. Like you would always get live updates on RT about the things happening around. So even if you are sitting in your office u will be able to find out the latest score of the IPL or get to know of the bomb blast that are happening in some part of India…coz user’s make video’s and share right away. I can safely say that some of the content that I see on RockeTalk, I don’t even see it on any of the news channels! The con’s being you sometimes get false information….because someone decided to have a little fun as he was getting bored stiff or this was his idea of getting attention of other users. Whatever it may be, at the end of it, its fun, entertaining and you’re connected to the world for free!!

So don’t just sit there and read this blog, come and connect with me and the world as well. Come join me on RockeTalk.

Meghna :)
